Prof Rachel Webster awarded 2013 Robert Ellery Lectureship

30 July 2013

Physics professor and Vice-President of the University Academic Board Rachel Webster has been awarded the 2013 Robert Ellery Lectureship.

The award recognises outstanding research relating to southern hemisphere astronomy, and is supported by the Gascoigne Fund of the Astronomical Society of Australia. As part of the award Prof Webster has been invited to present a keynote lecture at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Society.

An influential figure in astronomy for the last two decades, Prof Webster has made significant and valuable contributions to observational and theoretical astrophysical research – and has been the driving force behind the HI Parkes All Sky Survey (HIPASS) and the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA).

“I was very honoured,” Prof Webster said. “Since the award is only made every second year, the previous awardees are made up of a very select group in Australian astronomy.”
